BEGINNING OF A LONG JOURNEY!

Hi everyone! My name is Mujgan and I'm a first-year Master of Information student. In my undergrad in Communication Studies at York University, I have explored the social and ethical implications of contemporary technologies by looking at specific case studies and applying philosophical perspectives. The communication studies program has given me a solid foundation in understanding the power relations that shape information and the flow of communication. Before moving to Canada in 2017, I was studying law in Istanbul but I had to drop out due to political and social unrest in Turkey. Coming to the iSchool, I want to build on my previous knowledge in communication studies & law.

My main concentration is UXD but I also take courses from CIPS and C&T concentrations. For my research project, I would like to explore deeper philosophical foundations of technological development that looks into the underlying issues within design and the ethics of AI/technology. I’m also interested in Actor/Network theory as well as Techno-social Assemblage theory and I look forward to delving into these areas of study from a User Experience lens. I cannot wait to start writing my research proposal!

  1. Hi Mujgan. Your education background is definitely interesting and I would love to discuss further how your legal background informs your research and your interests.

This group will be interesting for me as I am in the MMSt program so will be able to learn from the different perspectives and research interests of MI students. I do not even know what the theories you mentioned in you comment are referring to so I am looking forward to learning more about AI and ethics.
